Third Annual Spring Fling - Wish I May!

Due to overwhelming popularity and participation, we are holding the third (annual?) Spring Fling event this May! I love matchmaking, you love matchmaking, we all love matchmaking... it's just so fun! Watching Songs fill and mares settle into their new lives - talk about the epitome of spring.

The prizes for this event will not be revealed until the conclusion of the contest. It's always kind of fun that way. Here are the rules!

For every mare who joins a Song or stallion who collects a mare from May 1st to May 31st, I will enter their owner into the random prize draw. So long as the date of your post on the forum says May, we're good. One Sam, one entry into the draw for both the owner of the mare and the owner of the stallion. Just make sure you post it here so that I know! After May is through, I'll visit our handy, dandy randomizer.org and run it for the winners.

I figured that this would be a fun way to encourage people who'd been debating a pairing for a while, or who wanted to pair off their mares but just hadn't had the incentive. Of course, if you need any matchmaking help, LvSoulFriend and I would be quite happy to help in our matchmaker threads in Sam Discussion!

Matches for Men and Mares

All Sams acquired before or during the month count for this. It cannot be a pairing made before May 1, however.

Once you have a new pair you'd like to announce, please include their names, their owners, the Song's name, and a link to their database page in bold. They must have fully joined the Song as per their database record before you post them. Thank you!

It's always such fun to see what pairs come about as a result of this! *pokes around at Sams* I think most of my mares who want to be in Songs are...but I've got a few stallions snorting and pawing the ground and hinting strongly that this might be a good time to get them some mares. Guys, you're awesome. <3 This is pretty much my favorite event. I love watching it unfold.

Seren, you can always throw them in the "Matches" thread and have a few suggestions to get the plotting-juices flowing. A stallion might turn up that you weren't expecting. Even if you've already submitted them (I can't remember off the top of my head), so many new ones have cropped up that there are bound to be differences.

I know Eve's going to end up with Misery of the Frozen Stream eventually, but Essence and Dive are still open... Dive hasn't been put up in awhile. Though I'm kind of torn on whether or not to keep Dive a bachelorette XD

I was just thinking, after winning my little mare canine mimic, that it'd be cool to get her into a Song. I might have to look into that thread too. :3

Also, do I need to do something to put her in the database? Sorry, I'm new to all this. ^_^;

You'll want to register for the database first by going to this page:

Once you're registered, take a peek at how the other entries are formatted. See what image name they use for the database image, etc. There's a thumbnail image to enter as well. If you don't feel comfortable making the entry for your Sam, I'm sure someone else would be willing to help, or even guide you through the process if you throw up a post in General or Sam discussion. I would be more descriptive if I had the time - my apologies. <3

And please feel free to throw her up in the matchmaking thread! The worst thing that can happen is that you don't really care for any of the stallions suggested.

Yes indeed there are! And I'm sure at least one of them is going to be looking for a canine-mimic-only Song, although I hope at least a couple of them branch off to make Sam-puppy hybrid babies with non-canine mares. xD

Sushi usually uploads a bunch of thumbnails together en masse, so it might be a little while before hers appears. It will, though!

I've updated her database entry to add the placeholder for her thumbnail, as well as putting her database image placeholder in the image bit and her cert in the page URL. I modified her trait text to state Animal Mimic and added the specific breed under Features.

Only one owner has to post. Once the mare is added to the Song in the database, it's considered "official" for the purpose of the contest.

(And if you ever need help adding a mare to a Song b/c their owner isn't familiar with the database or anything like that, please just let me know.)

By the by, Jennalyn, o Queen of the Samanayr Database... when a Song updates its status (Open, Semi-Open, Closed), do we need to note that anywhere other than the Database itself and the Song page the Database links to? I know for the longest time we were creating threads in the Song forum for each Song that started up, but more recently we've just been posting in that one thread... if I've updated an older Song that has its own thread, do I need to go find that thread and change the Status or are those old threads-for-each-Song basically obsolete..?

Nope, the Song page and the database entry are the only things that need to be changed in order to update the Song status. Theeeey're pretty much obsolete at this point, since people are doing a really great job of keeping things updated in other locations.

Out of curiosity, which Song did you update? :3

Aw, thanks, I love doing the song-blurbs! I don't think I ever did one for the Renewed Woodlands, I might have to rectify that. All of the names are really inspiring to me, I love all of the people I've collaborated with on them

As for what songs I changed... heck if I can remember, and I just did it this morning. That's my memory for you. I basically just changed a bunch of semi-open songs to "closed" (all but Sterling Brilliance) just because I'd like to give permission for/get notice of breeding if anyone wants to breed with them. I don't mind letting others breed with them, I just like to know if there will be babies so I can squee over them (and possibly offer breeding modiems so I can get one >.>)
