Samanayrs

Taurus/Allure seems to have inspired the Samanayrs to race to win her attention! Instead of the usual racing courses, they've taken to the streets of a nearby Sharian town for a mad scramble over the cobbled streets. Those Sharians had better watch their shins - racing Samanayrs can be a tripping hazard!



This race will be run over an urban course, with several obstacles that must be tackled.

Every round, a d6 (six-sided die) will be rolled for each racer. The number rolled determines how many spaces the racer goes forward, and the first Samanayr to the finish line is the winner! There are also prizes for the second and third Sams.

I probably won't be posting each round of the race in the thread, but just posting the results. Unfortunately Mr Sushi is away this week and I don't have a good chunk of time to run the race in so that everyone can watch. Hopefully everyone will still have some fun ;D

The course has several obstacles to get through. When a Samanayr reaches an obstacle, a d20 (20-sided die) will be rolled for them. Each obstacle has a number from 1 to 20, based on its difficulty, and the racer's roll must match or beat that number to successfully cross the obstacle.

Until the Samanayr is able to pass the obstacle, they will not move forward. If they successfully pass the obstacle, they will get a regular movement roll that round. If they encounter the obstacle in the middle of regular movement and successfully pass it on the same turn, they will continue forward normally.

If a Samanayr isn't able to pass an obstacle after three tries, they will pass it automatically after the third attempt and keep moving forward on their next turn.
A Samanayr's features and traits can give it bonuses or penalties to regular movement and obstacle rolls. The trick is that you won't know what affect your Sam's traits will have before the race starts! Here's some examples:

- A Samanayr with the Fluffy or Extensive Foot Tufts trait will be encumbered by that extra fur, and receive a -1 penalty to each regular movement roll.
- A Samanayr with very long legs is able to leap over obstacles easily, and it will receive a +5 bonus to obstacle rolls that require going over something.
- A Samanayr with the Butterfly Wings trait will need to be careful going through a dense bramble patch, and will receive a -10 penalty to the roll for that obstacle.
- A water Mystic would be able to gauge the currents and depths of a stream easily, giving it a +10 bonus for any obstacles requiring crossing water.


Although these races are pretty straightforward, in the future the terrain itself will play a part in a Samanayr's movement roll. For example, if a course was over sandy terrain, the Desert Samanayrs would have a clear advantage and receive a +1 bonus to each roll.



Rather than the usual medals, the winners of this race will receive some special prizes


Is your Samanayr all pumped up and ready to race? Good! Just make sure you read this important information first:

- Each person is allowed to enter one Samanayr per racing event (not one Samanayr per race).
- If you don't own a Samanayr but would like to participate, you may apply using someone else's Samanayr as long as you have the owner's permission.
- The person who enters the Samanayr in the race will receive the prizes, not the owner of the Sam.

There's just the one course this time!
The course of this race will take the races through the cobbled streets of a Sharian town. The cobbles may be slick if it rains, and dust may be an issue if the weather remains dry. Sharians walking the streets may be an issue, as well as objects on the streets.

There are 10 spots open for this race.

One quick question - can jobs give bonuses to racing the same way traits do?

I'll be applying with Vision, so if anyone wants to use Fringe or Ember, they may.

And a question here.... Is it only the ten who get slots who can then claim one of Mystic's tickets for the Ophiuchus - On the Outskirts Event? Or anyone who sends a form in to you?

@Raenia - There's no currently no specific job that will always give a bonus or penalty in races, but if a job has a particular uniform (eg the heavy armor of a Guard) it could affect the Sam's stats.

@Origami_Dragon - Anyone who sends in a form can claim a ticket!

@RikkuGirl - A pudgy Sam would have a small penalty to movement while a mini Sam would have a larger penalty thanks to those short little legs XD

Do amulets have to be equipped to the sam who wins them like medals or can they be equipped to anyone?

@Echos - The amulets available through the zodiac events are just regular ones and can be equipped to any Sam you own!

And the race is run It ended up being a very close finish, with Wrath, Stealing, Curl, and Wish all making a break for the finish line at the same time, but here's the results!
Congrats to our winners, and thanks to all of our races for coming out today! They had to navigate some loose cobblestones, a large group of Sharians who didn't seem aware the race was happening, and a few carts parked across the street (good thing Samanayrs easily fit underneath!) - some interesting terrain!

(I must say, it's much easier running a race without having to post every round, although definitely not as much fun for everyone else to watch XD)
