Mystic of the Sheltering Morass shakes herself free of the constricting vines and eyes the approaching sinkhole warily. She slows down to an easy pace before she mires herself hopelessly.

With a happy whoop, Mystic of the Soothing Sands clears the sinkhole and looks about at his new place among the racers. Clearly, he needed to hit the trail even harder! A good burst of speed now could do amazing things if the gamble paid off...

Sentinel's pride keeps her from slowing down from her normal pace, but the mare is sticky with mud and sweat, and there are bugs - bugs! - that keep trying to dive into her eyes. Stupid things think her glowing eyes are the moon. But she's determined to win, and she folds her ears back and forges on toward the end.

Erosion's hard pace brings her to a halt as she reaches the rotting logs and they crumble beneath her. Meanwhile Mystic of the Sheltering Morass moves forward at a leisurely pace, not quite fast enough to pass the sinkhole this turn, but leaving her time to prepare herself for it.

The next obstacle wasn't too far. Refrain decides to pick up the pace a bit to the next obstacle and runs hard.

Passion, having got through the first two obstacles felt much more confident. He didn't tatter his wings and was able to get through a sink hole! He was on fire! He pushed Hard, all 6 legs forcing him forward. His chest expands and contracts as he forces his body forward. He prepares himself for the next hurtle that he saw in the distance, the others pushing ahead. He had to do this. "You can do this Passion!" he says to himself giving himself confidence and focus. He wanted to succeed for his future family. He wanted to be a winner.

Erosion bit her lip some as her pace slowed just slightly. These logs were going to be a problem. But that couldn't stop her, she would not let it. Taking a few refreshing breaths of this odd-smelling swamp, she started forward, slowly picking up speed over these rotting logs that wanted to hinder her so. Rude much? She always did have a fondness for growling at inanimate objects. She was bolting on, keeping up the hard pace. Whatever soreness, ache in the chest, and lack of breath this caused was entirely worth it, she would just have to work through it until this race was over, easy and good for her.

As the thick scent of rotting wood filled the air ahead, overwhelming even the heavy scent of the swamps themselves, Stalk slowed again. Even back here splinters of spongy wood were scattered in the mud, threatening to wedge themselves up into tender hooves. Snorting and tossing her head in distaste for the first time since entering the swamp she balked slightly before forcing herself on at an easy pace. Mud was fine, it felt wonderful under her feet. Splinters and wood full of wriggly bugs was much less pleasant and she wasn't looking forwards to facing it.

Mystic of the Soothing Sun eyes up the logs, deciding they just don't look built for a Sam of his particular body type. Slowing down to an easy pace, Mystic hopes he doesn't loose too much ground...

When she sees the next obstacle, Sentinel doesn't slow down. Continuing at a normal pace, she leaps her way forward.

With a happy Snort, Pride crosses the finish line first. Not far behind, a few Samanayrs cross the final obstacle jimmying for second and third place, who will claim these coveted spots? Meanwhile Erosion pulls out one hoof from the log only to plunge right back in on her next step. Passion and Refrain also get caught up in the rotting logs, with Whip and Frenzy not far behind just coming up on the span of logs. Mystic, all too familiar with swamps is taking it easy, but perhaps a little too easy?

Free of the logs, Stalk glanced back briefly. The sound of splintering wood filled the air, sending waves of rotting aroma wafting towards her. It made her skin crawl, especially after her all too recent encounter with the wood. Recklessly she sprang forwards. She's been moving slow, and now that the end was so close, surely it must be so close... She launched herself hard into the swamp, determined to reach the end of the race course soon. She might not be ready to leave the swamp, but she wanted to be able to avoid obstacles like those logs! Not have to go right through them!

Refrain struggled to remove one of her hooves from the logs. After removing it she leaned her head down so she could use her antlers to help move or break through some of the logs and proceed at her normal pace.

Clear of the obstacle, Mystic of the Soothing Sands flips the last splinter off his sinuous tail and (as long as he was slower through that mess anyway) takes a small moment to steam the worst of the water out of his mane.

It looks like a mad dash for the finish, so he hits that trail HARD.

Frustration overtook Erosion at the rotting logs, how was she supposed to advance, even a little bit? Gnashing her teeth Erosion slowed down her pace to a simple, normal speed. She really did need to slow down, whether or not that got into her head was an entirely different matter. The only thought that really ran through her head, over and over again. Stupid. Logs.

The end is in sight! Sentinel digs deep into her energy reserves and runs as fast as she can, pushing herself hard. With a mighty whinny, she heads toward the finish line.

Passion pushes through at a normal pace, not trying to hurt himself. He takes time to get through the logs as best he can. He still has a small chance. He wouldn't give up! He took deep breaths and made sure to keep proper footing through the disgusting logs.
